Manpower is a country’s greatest resource. Therefore, for a country to move forward, the skill of its people must be honed and developed; developed in a sense that it should not only be confined within the limits of what he is capable of but to develop and reach out to other possibilities. The kind of men produced by a country is also a reflection of where they came from, of how they were looked after and guided by the governing body, of the principles of beliefs they flourished with.
In the UST setting, or even closer in the Faculty of Arts and Letters, we students majoring in Communication Arts belong in one big community and that is our CASA community. CASA, as the community where we first thrive in our university life and will continue to in the next 4 years or so, aims to promote and develop the strengths of every CASAn and send every CASAn graduate out into the world prepared for everything it would throw at him or her. For this very goal, we have the CASA guilds.
The CASA guilds were devised to mold every CASAns’ potential; to develop the skills a CASAn has that may help him or her in the path that he or she is taking as a Communications graduate, an outlet and school of the talents and interests each possesses, and an avenue to new ventures. The guilds, if not all, the majority, perceivesthe future CA graduate and incorporate in their activities their career paths while keeping their interests on sky-high.Take for example CASA Adventure, the Advertising Guild, where you can squeeze out your creative juices, or develop the skill how to, and see your ideas in the larger scale, train you for advertising jobs in the future; CASA Retorika, the public speaking and debate guild, where you can boost your confidence and speak with ease and finesse; CASA Channel, the television production guild, where you can take a peek firsthand the day in the life in a production; CASA Cam, the photography guild, where you will learn to shoot like a pro and make the best of whatever camera you have , be it a DSLRor a digicam; CASA Reel, the film guild, for those film enthusiasts and budding filmmakers; MusiCASA, the music guild, where every CASAns' musicality will be enhanced through performances and jamming; CASA Footworks, the dance guild, where they could make you dance as easy as breathing; CASA Cast, the theatre guild, where passion meets center stage; and of course, CASA Chronicle, the official student publication guild of CASA, where writing becomes a way of life.
Will joining guilds overlap with our academic life? Will it eat our social life and beauty rests? Will we gain other things from here other than learning and the experience? No, and yes. Guilds may take a little of your time but will not interfere with your academic life. They are not meant to be excuses to be absent from class either, unless properly authorized. On the other hand, they are supposed to supplement the academics, be an application of the stuff learned from inside the four corners of the classroom. And on the contrary, your social life will be up a notch because joining guilds would mean meeting and mingling with people perhaps not only people from CASA or AB but also people from all over the university. Academic excellence is good but don’t forget your co-curricular on the side. Companies look at more than just your transcript but also in the experience you’ve had with your chosen field. Joining guilds is not a burden to the already too much load we have, but more beneficial than others think it is.
So CASAns, be an asset, be an achiever, be involved; be an important resource and share your skills to the world beyond your bounds. Visit the CASA Guild recruitment on July11- 15 at the Quadricentennial Square. Unleash the superhero in you! Be involved, be a certified CASAn!
